Is your Wix or Squarespace site readable by AI?

Site builders are better at this than their reputation suggests and worse than their marketing does. The basics are handled for you and handled well. The parts that decide whether a machine recommends you are either behind a settings page most people never open, or genuinely out of reach.

Handled for you

HTTPS, one canonical domain, a real 404, a valid robots.txt, a sitemap, titles, descriptions and OpenGraph cards. On the access and basic identity layers a builder site usually scores near full marks, and that is not nothing: those are the checks that gate everything else.

Behind a settings page

Both platforms have a business information section that produces the entity data: name, address, contact, hours, and the social profiles that verify you. Filling it in takes ten minutes and moves more points than anything else you can do in an afternoon. Most sites we measure have it half filled or empty.

Where the ceiling is, honestly

Custom structured data usually needs a code block or an embed, and on some plans that is not available at all. A machine-readable product feed or an agent endpoint is generally out of reach. And content that the builder renders with JavaScript stays invisible to crawlers that do not run it, which you cannot change from inside the editor.

So there is a number a builder site realistically cannot pass, and we will tell you what it is for yours rather than selling you a report that ends in a shrug. If the ceiling is below where you need to be, that is a rebuild conversation and we quote it separately.
